A first meeting of experts at Brazzaville in Congo

On 13 September the Brazzaville Foundation held a meeting in Brazzaville with experts from government of the Republic of Congo to discuss how the economies of the the Congo Basin countries could shift from forest-based resources to a new form of sustainable development based on making much greater use of the renewable resources represented by the waters of the Congo and its tributaries.

The aim is to contribute to what the Economic Commission for Africa has called Africa’s “Blue Economy” and, by offering an alternative to the exploitation of forest resources, to support efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

During their visit the Foundation's representatives, which included Sundeep Waslekar, a member of the Foundation's Advisory Board and Chairman of the Strategic Foresight Group, were received by the President of the Republic, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of State for Agriculture.
